School Safety
Our Commitment to Safe Schools
The safety and security of each and every student and staff member is “Priority One” in District 16. Emergency preparedness plans, procedures, and personnel are in place. The district has a Crisis Management Team and comprehensive plans for staff to follow in the event of emergency situations of all kinds. Strong connections exist between our schools and local police, fire, and other public safety agencies.
Safety Committee Purpose
To involve labor and management in a cooperative effort to promote safety and health in each of the district’s workplaces, as well as to satisfy the requirements of MS 182.676, MR 5208, and MDE.
Extent of Authority
The safety committee will aid and advise management about safety and health issues in the workplace. All recommendations from the safety committee will be submitted to management. Management will consider the recommendations and respond to the safety committee within a reasonable time.
Functions and Duties of the Safety Committee

Review health and safety programs and records

Review employee safety suggestions/concerns

Review safety inspection reports and/or participate in safety inspections

Review injury reports

Participate/follow up on accident investigations

Discuss accident prevention methods; identify best practices

Participate in training related to these functions & duties

Provide recommendations for elimination or control of hazards

Disseminate applicable safety information to supervisors and/or employees
Communication
-
Information provided to all employees – committee purpose, schedule, membership list, activities, system for reporting issues/concerns, need for cooperation and support, meeting records (agenda, attendance, and minutes).

Methods of communication - email, website, newsletter, bulletin board postings, etc.
